My name is Rae Ellen Siegmyer. I am the owner of Achin’ Acres Farm and Stables. The farm has been in business since 1968 starting in North Royalton,
Ohio. We moved the operation to Hinckley, Ohio in the spring of 1977. I worked closely with my parents, Bob and Milly Siegmyer and sisters, Alice and Robin in the running of the
boarding business and the Appaloosa breeding program. Handling the stallion, Monte-High 242124 for breeding outside mares and our own breeding stock was one of my most important
functions as the Barn Manager. I also trained the foals and showed them at futurities to get them ready for sale.
During this time, I also took on outside training and showing for others. I showed many different breeds of horses including, Appaloosas, Arabians, Half-Arabians,
Morgans, Quarter Horses, Saddlebreds and several others. I also learned to ride hunt and saddle seat on my own, as before this time I had only ridden stock seat.
Several years ago, things changed. The breeding stock had to be sold due to the health of my parents. A few years later, my parents agreed to sell the farm to me,
making me "a deal I couldn’t refuse". I quit my full-time job as a chef, and took over my life’s dream of running the farm. Judging, lessons, and showing horses are now my full-time
job.
I am carded to judge horses in the Pinto Horse Association, International Buckskin Association, American Buckskin Registry, Pony of Americas Club and National Snaffle Bit
Association. I am also listed in the states of Ohio and Michigan to Judge 4-H horse shows.
I am a former 9 year 4-H member so it only seemed natural to become an advisor. I have been an advisor in Medina County, Ohio for the past 15 years and a club
advisor for the Achin’ Saddle Cinchers of Hinckley, Ohio, who are based at my farm. I ride and give lessons in Hunt, Saddle and stock seats to youth and adults.
I am presently showing my 2000 Half-Arabian/Appaloosa mare, High Amber Sundance. In 2004 we lost her mother to complications from colic. Soon after we purchased AQHA mare DJS Lotta Turbo
who was then bred to Appaloosa Stallion Sirs Tijuana Twister. On March 6, 2005 a filly was born at Achin' Acres Farm whose registered name is
Dee
Fortunate Twist.
Being a horse enthusiast and riding so many different breeds of horses, I find myself a member of over 20 national breed organizations. I belong to five Breed and
Ohio Breed organizations and Open associations, and also three local clubs. Having little spare time for fun, the little I have, I enjoy a great deal. I am the current treasurer of the
South Suburbs Dart League and a member of the Prime Time Ladies Golf League, two pastimes I find more frustrating than training horses.
On a personal note: With 37 years of working with horses and youth I find even though there are frustrations, and drawbacks, I find watching youth succeed in life
through their working with horses, most gratifying. Horses teach patience, hard work and responsibility.
